Offensive Explosion Fuels Sharks to 14–7 Victory Over Indian River
The Sharks turned a shaky start into a slugfest triumph on Wednesday afternoon, rallying from an early five-run deficit to take down Indian River State College 14–7 in a statement win on the road.
Miami Dade lit up the scoreboard with a nine-run fifth inning, erasing a 6–4 deficit and seizing full control of the game with 15 total hits, including two home runs from freshman standout Cian Copeland.
Copeland finished the game with two homers and five RBIs, launching bombs in both the first and fifth innings to spark and seal the comeback. He was one of six Sharks with multi-hit performances, joined by Alejandro Sanchez (3-for-4, RBI), Thomas White (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), and Santiago Carriles-Alvarado (2-for-3, RBI double).
Trailing 6–4 entering the top of the fifth, MDC erupted for nine runs, highlighted by Copeland's second homer of the game, a bases-clearing shot to dead center. The Sharks piled on with a double by Carriles-Alvarado, an RBI double by Matt Thorsen, and RBI contributions from White, Adrian Poviones, and Michael Petite, who also homered earlier in the game.
On the mound, after a rough outing from starter Alex Pazos, the bullpen stepped up in a big way. Pedro Mejia earned the win with two strong innings of relief, while Jose Villegas closed it out with two scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Despite an early offensive surge from the Pioneers, who plated five runs in the first and added two more by the fifth, their pitching collapsed in the middle innings. MDC took advantage of wildness and defensive miscues, drawing six walks and capitalizing on two Indian River errors.
