Vargas stays in the 305
After a breakout season on the mound for the Miami Dade Sharks, right-handed pitcher Jordan Vargas is headed to Florida International University (FIU) to continue his academic and athletic career at the NCAA Division I level.
Vargas was a major force for the Sharks throughout the 2024 season, appearing in 18 games and starting 9. He finished with a 10–2 record, 2 saves, and a 3.90 ERA over 64.2 innings pitched. With 63 strikeouts and a 1.28 WHIP, Vargas was one of the most consistent and effective arms in the rotation.
His performance reached another level when it mattered most, down the stretch in the playoff push. Vargas delivered back-to-back must-win outings in a three-game sweep of Eastern Florida State, helping clinch a postseason berth for the Sharks. In game one, he started and dominated, scattering six hits over six innings, walking none and striking out seven to pick up the win. Just three days later, he came out of the bullpen in game two, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings to notch another victory.
In total, over 7.2 playoff-clinching innings, Vargas allowed just one earned run on eight hits, walked none, and struck out seven, finishing the week with a 2–0 record and a 1.17 ERA.
Now headed to FIU, Vargas brings postseason poise, command, and big-game experience to the Panthers, looking to make an immediate impact at the Division I level.
