Cruz Commits to Campbell University
Right-hander Gabriel Cruz is headed to Campbell University after a promising but shortened 2024-25 season with the Sharks. Cruz's year was cut short after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but in limited action, he showcased dominant stuff on the mound.
In just five appearances for the Sharks, Cruz went 2-0 with a 3.92 ERA over 20.2 innings. He allowed only 15 hits and six walks while striking out 29 batters posting an electric 12.63 strikeouts per nine innings and a stellar 1.02 WHIP. Opponents struggled to square him up, managing just four home runs and a .197 batting average against.
Despite the setback, Cruz's strong early-season performance and potential have earned him a spot at Campbell, a perennial contender in the Big South Conference. Once fully healthy, he'll look to bring his swing-and-miss arsenal to the Camels' pitching staff and make an immediate impact at the Division I level.
