Daytona State Shuts Out Miami Dade, 7–0
Daytona Beach, FL- The Miami Dade Sharks were held to just one hit on Friday afternoon as Daytona State College pulled away late for a 7–0 victory over MDC.
The game remained scoreless through the first four innings as Miami Dade starter Samuel Alonso kept Daytona State off balance early. Alonso worked 4.1 innings, allowing three hits while striking out six before the Falcons broke through in the fifth inning.
Daytona State opened the scoring with an RBI double from Dominic Donatucci, followed by a two-run single from John Lopez to give the home side a 3–0 advantage. Miami Dade's pitching staff worked to limit further damage, with Jose Villegas tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief and striking out three.
The Falcons extended their lead in the seventh inning, capitalizing on timely hitting to plate four more runs. David Falloon delivered a two-run single before Jake Schincariol added a two-run double to push the margin to 7–0.
Offensively, the Sharks were unable to generate momentum against Daytona State's pitching combination of Tyler Borton and Colton Beard, who combined to allow just one hit while striking out nine. Israel Garcia recorded Miami Dade's lone hit of the afternoon, while the Sharks drew four walks but left five runners on base.
Kevin Roque allowed four runs in the seventh inning, while Magdiel Estevez closed out the game with a scoreless eighth inning and two strikeouts.
Miami Dade drops to 3–5 on the season and will look to regroup in its next outing as the Sharks face Daytona State again in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon.
