Late Comeback Slips Away as Sharks Fall to Daytona State in Game 2
Daytona Beach, FL - Miami Dade built an early lead and battled deep into extra innings, but Daytona State capitalized late to hand the Sharks a 10–9 loss in 10 innings in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Miami Dade wasted no time jumping in front. Denixon Suarez opened the scoring in the first with an RBI double, and the Sharks added two more in the second before breaking the game open in the third. A defensive miscue allowed another run to score, and Antonio Fawcett delivered a two-run single to push the advantage to 6–0 early.
Daytona State chipped away, scoring twice in the third and adding another in the fifth, but Miami Dade answered again in the sixth. Suarez drove in two more runs after reaching on an error, extending the Sharks' lead to 8–3 and putting Miami Dade in control heading into the late innings.
The Falcons responded with a rally in the seventh, stringing together three runs to cut the deficit to two, and tied the game in the eighth on a two-run homer by David Falloon, sending the contest into extra innings.
In the tenth, Miami Dade briefly reclaimed the lead when Fawcett lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring the go-ahead run for a 9–8 advantage. But Daytona State answered in the bottom half, taking advantage of defensive miscues to plate two unearned runs and walk it off.
Suarez finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while Fawcett added two hits and three RBIs in a strong offensive performance. Jendy Gonzalez reached base three times and drove in a run, and the Sharks drew six walks while collecting eight hits.
Miami Dade's pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts, but defensive errors proved costly late as Daytona State erased the lead and completed the comeback in extra innings.
