Late Runs Lift Santa Fe Past Miami Dade
Miami, FL - Miami Dade dropped a midweek matchup to Santa Fe College, 5-2, as the Saints used early offense and late insurance runs to secure the road victory. The Sharks fall to 15-13-1 overall, while Santa Fe improves to 14-15.
Santa Fe wasted no time jumping ahead, plating two runs in the top of the first inning off starter TJ Socarras. An RBI single from Cole Carnell opened the scoring before a bases-loaded walk extended the lead to 2-0. The Saints added another in the third, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to make it 3-0.
Miami Dade struggled to find rhythm early but broke through in the fourth inning. William Polanco reached and later scored on an RBI single by Leamsi Montanez to get the Sharks on the board. Montanez delivered again in the sixth, driving in Jendy Gonzalez with a base hit up the middle to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Despite the momentum shift, the Sharks could not push across the tying run. Santa Fe's bullpen, led by Caleb Clanton, kept Miami Dade in check over the final 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four.
On the mound, Socarras (2-3) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) over 2.1 innings. The bullpen provided solid relief, highlighted by Luke Helms, who tossed 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to keep the Sharks within striking distance.
Santa Fe added key insurance runs late, scoring in the eighth on Carnell's second RBI single of the game and again in the ninth on an RBI knock from JP Espinosa to seal the 5-2 final.
Offensively, Miami Dade was limited to six hits, with Samuel Castro and Montanez each recording multi-hit performances. Montanez led the way with both RBIs for the Sharks.
Miami Dade will look to bounce back in its next outing as the Sharks continue conference play.
