Sharks Drop Series Opener at FSW
Fort Myers, FL - Miami Dade couldn't get the offense going Thursday night, falling 8-1 to Florida SouthWestern in the series opener on the road.
The Sharks were limited to just two hits on the night, coming from Jendy Gonzalez and Denixon Suarez. Miami Dade's lone run came in the fifth inning when Leamsi Montanez drove in William Polanco on a sacrifice fly, trimming the deficit to 2-1 at the time.
Florida SouthWestern answered right back and pulled away for good. A two-run homer from Jonah St. Antoine highlighted a three-run fifth inning that extended the lead to 5-1. The Buccaneers added more late, including a two-run home run in the eighth by Bishop Quarles to seal it.
On the mound, Jesus Moreno (2-1) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs over 4.2 innings while issuing five walks. Luke Helms provided three innings of relief, striking out three.
Florida SouthWestern starter Cole Greer was in control throughout, holding the Sharks to one hit across six innings to earn the win.
Miami Dade now turns its attention to the final two games of the series back at home, where the Sharks will need to win both if they want to secure hosting rights for the first round of the FCSAA Playoffs.
