Four Sharks Earn All-Conference Honors
Four of the 2021-2022 Miami Dade Sharks have been named to the 2022 All-Southern Conference Men's Basketball Team.
6'8" Sophomore Khalil Turner led the voting for the Sharks, earning First-Team honors. Khalil averaged 14.2 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 2.9 APG, and an impressive 1.9 BPG on the season en route to his second straight First-Team All Conference honors in the Southern Conference. Khalil led FCSAA Region 8 in blocked shots per game. Turner also earned First-Team honors while at Palm Beach State during the 2021 season.
The Sharks placed three members on the All-Southern Conference Second Team: 5'10" Freshman Speedy Carcamo, 6'6" Freshman Dashaun Joseph, and 6'3" Sophomore D'Monte Brown.
Speedy had an impressive run during conference play, averaging 15.5 PPG, 4.3 APG (including a stellar 5.2 A/TO ratio), and shot 49% from 3PT. Albeit only having played in 8 games due to injury, Speedy was 3rd in the FCSAA/Region 8 in total 3PT%, having shot 46.2% from 3PT on the year. He also would be tops in FCSAA/Region 8 in season A/TO ratio, having dished out 3.3 A/TO in his 8 games.
Dashaun came on strong in conference play, earning him second team All-Conference honors in his second season with the Sharks. He averaged 11.1PPG, 5.8 RPG, and shot 48% from the field in conference play, having scored in double figures in 10 of the 12 conference games, highlighted by his 16 point games vs. State College of Florida on January 24th.
D'Monte had an impressive 2021-2022 season and conference season. D'Monte paced the Sharks in scoring for the year as well as conference play. D'Monte averaged 16.2PPG, 6.4RPG, 1.6APG, 1.6SPG, and shot 54% from the Field and 35% from 3PT. During conference play he continued his impressive play, averaging 14.1PPG, 5.9RPG, and shot 47% from the Field. D'Monte earned NJCAA National/Region 8 Player of the week during the week of November 29th through December 5th for his amazing 43 point, 9 rebound game in a double-overtime win on the road against #24 Eastern Florida State. Brown also finished 10th in the FCSAA/Region 8 in scoring on the season.
Two more Sharks were honored, as James Horton and Marco Downer were both named Honorable Mention All-Southern Conference.
