The Miami Dade Sharks opened their conference schedule with a thrilling 67-64 victory over the Polk State Eagles, showcasing balanced scoring and a strong defensive effort. The Sharks were led by Faheim Saintleger Meran, who delivered a standout performance with 19 points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Ernesto Rodriguez provided a significant boost off the bench, adding 14 points, including three three-pointers. While Miami Dade shot 37.7% from the field and 31.0% from beyond the arc, their defensive tenacity made the difference, as they forced 12 turnovers, recorded seven steals, and tallied seven blocks.
The Eagles relied on Cole White and Ty Owens, who combined for 31 points. White led all Polk State scorers with 16 points, while Owens chipped in 15 and grabbed seven rebounds. Fray Nguimbi added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Despite their efforts and a dominant 45-42 edge on the boards, Polk State struggled to convert offensively, shooting just 31.7% from the field and 21.1% from three-point range.
