Sharks Run Away With 132–63 Victory at Home
The Miami Dade College Sharks delivered another convincing performance Friday afternoon, overpowering Tennessee Valley Prep 132–63 at the Gibson Center to finish off Day 1 of the Jim Cox Classic.
The Sharks came out with overwhelming defensive pressure, forcing turnovers on multiple early possessions and turning them into points in transition. That energy sparked a 16-0 run to open the game as Miami Dade quickly broke things open and never allowed the visitors to recover. By halftime, the Sharks held a commanding 65–33 advantage and continued to widen the gap throughout the second period.
Sophomore guard Anthony Breland led the scoring surge with 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists while relentlessly attacking the rim. Ernesto Rodríguez provided another strong shooting performance, knocking down five threes on his way to 19 points and keeping the Tennessee Valley defense spread thin.
Inside, forwards Anthony Gilkes and Joachim Kouassi imposed their will in the paint, each recording double-doubles. Gilkes finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Kouassi added 17 points, 10 boards, and two blocks, setting the tone physically on both ends of the floor.
Freshman sharpshooter Zayvian Bieger continued to make an early-season impact, drilling five threes to score 17 points off the bench. The Sharks displayed exceptional ball movement throughout the afternoon as well with point guard Juvon Gamory handing out 12 assists while directing an offense that saw 32 team assists on 48 made field goals.
Miami Dade shot 56.5 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the arc while dominating the boards 54–32. Defensively, the Sharks forced 20 turnovers and limited Tennessee Valley Prep to just 32.2 percent shooting for the contest.
With the win, Miami Dade improves to 4–2 on the young season and remains unbeaten at home. The Sharks are back in action this tomorrow as they take on Southern Union State Community College at 4 PM.
