Mito’s Late Heroics Lift Sharks Past Lincoln Trail
Dotha, AL - The Sharks answered late and leaned on a complete-game effort from Ava Salvino to secure a 3–2 win over Lincoln Trail College on Saturday afternoon.
The Sharks found themselves trailing early after Lincoln Trail pushed across runs in the first and second innings, but Salvino settled in quickly, limiting damage and keeping Miami Dade within striking distance. From that point forward, the sophomore right-hander controlled the pace of the game, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out four over seven innings.
Miami Dade broke through in the fourth inning, taking advantage of pressure on the bases to even the score. Sofia Reyes scored on a wild pitch before Daniela Olvera Rodriguez came home on a passed ball later in the inning, tying the game at 2–2.
With the game still deadlocked entering the seventh, Caroline Mito provided the difference. The sophomore drove a ball into the outfield and never slowed, circling the bases for an inside-the-park home run that gave the Sharks their first lead of the afternoon and ultimately the game-winning run.
Mito finished with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored, while Coral Latshaw led the offense with two hits. Makayla Deleon and Salvino each added hits as Miami Dade manufactured enough offense in a tightly played contest.
Despite committing three errors defensively, the Sharks' pitching and late execution proved decisive, holding Lincoln Trail scoreless over the final five innings to close out the victory and cap a strong performance in a one-run battle.
