Miami Dade Falls to Salt Lake
Fort Myers, FL - Miami Dade struck first but could not slow Salt Lake Community College's late surge, as the Sharks fell 8–1 in tournament action.
The Sharks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Ebba Sofia Eriksson lined a double to center field, bringing home Coral Latshaw to give Miami Dade an early 1–0 advantage. The early momentum, however, was short-lived as Salt Lake responded in the second inning with a pair of runs to take a 2–1 lead.
Ava Salvino settled in after the early damage, keeping the game within reach through the middle innings while Miami Dade generated traffic on the bases. The Sharks finished with six hits on the afternoon, with Eriksson leading the way with two hits and the team's lone RBI. Caroline Mito, Maria Julia Pedroso, Makayla Deleon, and Latshaw each added a hit.
The turning point came in the sixth inning, when Salt Lake capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting to break the game open. The Bruins pushed across five runs in the frame, using a combination of bunts, sacrifice flies, and RBI singles to extend their lead. Salt Lake added an insurance run in the seventh to seal the result.
Miami Dade was unable to mount a late response against Salt Lake starter Brecka Larson, who limited the Sharks to one run over seven innings. Salvino took the loss after allowing seven runs, only two earned, over six innings of work, while Enora Simon pitched the final inning in relief.
The Sharks will look to regroup as tournament play continues.
