Handa Spins Complete-Game Shutout as Sharks Blank St. Thomas 2-0
Miami, FL - Behind a dominant performance in the circle and timely extra-base hitting, Miami Dade shut out St. Thomas University 2–0 on Wednesdahy.
The Sharks broke through in the bottom of the third inning, plating the only runs they would need. With runners aboard, Ebba Sofia Eriksson delivered the decisive swing of the game, a line-drive double to right field that brought home Caroline Mito and Coral Latshaw for a 2–0 lead.
That was more than enough support for sophomore right-hander Amanda Handa.
Handa was in full command from the first pitch, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits over seven innings, struck out seven, and walked only one on 86 pitches. St. Thomas managed only three baserunners via hits and never advanced a runner past second base as Handa consistently worked ahead in the count and limited hard contact.
Defensively, the Sharks backed her up throughout. While each team committed one error, Miami Dade avoided any damage and controlled the tempo from start to finish.
Cate Haggerty led the Sharks offensively with two hits, while Mito and Latshaw each scored a run at the top of the order. Eriksson finished 1-for-3 with a game-high two RBIs, accounting for all of MDC's offense.
