Mito’s Two Hits Not Enough as Sharks Drop Game One to FSW
Fort Myers, FL - Miami Dade opened its doubleheader with a tight, defensive battle but came up short in a 3–1 loss to Florida SouthWestern State.
The Sharks were limited to four hits on the afternoon, while FSW capitalized on key moments and defensive miscues to secure their second conference win.
Amanda Handa (6-2) was strong in the circle despite the final line. The Brazilian right-hander allowed just three hits across six innings and did not surrender an earned run. She struck out four and threw 50 strikes in her 76-pitch outing. All three Buccaneer runs were unearned.
Florida SouthWestern struck first in the opening inning, pushing across a run after a throwing error allowed Noelani Livingstone to score. The Bucs extended the lead in the fifth when Livingstone delivered the game's biggest swing, a two run double down the left field line to make it 3–0.
Miami Dade continued to compete and broke through in the sixth.
Makayla Deleon reached and came around to score on Caroline Mito's RBI double to center field, cutting the deficit to 3–1. Mito paced the Sharks offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and a stolen base. Leyani Viruet added a base hit, while Deleon accounted for the run scored.
Zoe Yzaguirre went the distance for FSW, striking out nine without issuing a walk.
The Sharks remained within striking distance throughout and look to turn the page quickly with Game 2 of the Doubleheader still ahead.
