Sharks Complete Doubleheader Sweep with 6–1 Win Over Polk State
Miami, FL - The Miami Dade Sharks completed the doubleheader sweep on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Polk State College 6-1 behind a strong all-around performance and a complete-game effort in the circle from Ava Salvino.
Polk State struck first in the top of the opening inning when Calonnie Holmes came around to score during a stolen base attempt by Kirsten Aldridge, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
The Sharks responded in the bottom of the second inning to even the score. Alyssa Densmore crossed the plate during a rundown on the bases, tying the game at 1-1 and shifting momentum toward Miami Dade.
Miami Dade took control in the third inning. Maria Julia Pedroso came around to score when Caroline Mito drove a ball into the infield and advanced to third on the play for an RBI. Moments later, Ebba Sofia Eriksson delivered an RBI single to bring Mito home and give the Sharks a 3-1 advantage.
The Sharks added to their lead in the fourth inning with a three-run frame. Valeria Rivera came through with a two-run single to right field that scored Jessica Ortiz and Savannah Barlow. Later in the inning, Mito lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that brought home Sofia Reyes, extending the lead to 6-1.
That was more than enough run support for Salvino, who turned in a strong performance in the circle. The right-hander went the distance, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four and walking one across seven innings to earn her fourth win of the season.
Miami Dade finished with 12 hits in the contest. Eriksson led the way with two hits and an RBI, while Barlow and Makayla Deleon each recorded two-hit performances. Rivera drove in two runs and Mito added two RBIs as the Sharks continued to apply steady offensive pressure throughout the game.
