Sharks Fall in Extras as Buccaneers Complete Sweep
Miami, FL - Miami Dade battled back to take the lead midway through, but a late surge from Florida SouthWestern State College lifted the Buccaneers to a 6-3 extra-inning win in Game 2.
Florida SouthWestern struck first with a solo home run from Stephanie Basso in the second inning, then added another long ball in the fifth off the bat of Noelani Livingstone to build a 2-0 lead.
The Sharks answered in the bottom half of the fifth in unconventional fashion. Taking advantage of defensive miscues, Miami Dade plated three unearned runs to flip the game and take a 3-2 lead. Sofia Reyes sparked the inning, while Nidayra Romano and Jessica Ortiz both came around to score as the pressure forced mistakes from the Buccaneers.
Miami Dade carried that momentum into the late innings behind a combined effort in the circle from Ava Salvino and Ella Brooks, keeping the game within reach.
Florida SouthWestern responded in the sixth, tying the game at 3-3 on an RBI single from Thaima Maximiliana, setting up a tense finish.
After both sides remained deadlocked through seven, the Buccaneers broke through in the eighth. A sacrifice fly gave Florida SouthWestern the lead before back-to-back RBI hits extended the advantage to 6-3.
The Sharks were unable to answer in the bottom half, as Florida SouthWestern closed out the game to complete the sweep.
Miami Dade will look to get back in the win column as they turn their attention to Daytona State College whom they'll face on Thursday, April 2nd.
