Haggerty's Heroics Save The Day
Miami, FL- The Miami Dade Sharks saved the best for last.
Trailing late, the Sharks stormed back with a three-run seventh inning to walk off the College of Central Florida, 4-3, to complete the doubleheader sweep.
It wasn't as smooth as Game 1. Central Florida jumped ahead early and built a 3-0 lead by the fifth, putting Miami Dade on its heels. But the Sharks stayed composed and chipped away. Caroline Mito got them on the board in the fifth with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to two and giving the lineup some life.
Then came the seventh.
Down to their final three outs, Miami Dade flipped the game. Mito stayed hot at the plate and set the tone with a double, finishing with three hits on the day. Amanda Handa followed with a clutch RBI single to make it 3-2, and moments later, Maria Julia Pedroso tied it up with a sacrifice fly.
With runners in scoring position, Cate Haggerty delivered the dagger lining a walk-off double down the left field line to bring home the winning run and cap the comeback.
The Sharks finished with 11 hits, with Mito leading the charge and Haggerty adding two hits and the game-winner. Miami Dade stayed aggressive on the bases as well, swiping multiple bags and constantly applying pressure.
In the circle, it was a team effort. Ava Salvino and Ella Brooks kept the game within reach before Handa came in and shut the door in the seventh to earn the win.
