MDC Bats Stay Hot in 13–7 Win Over Eastern Florida
Melbourne, FL - Miami Dade wasted no time taking control of Game 1 of the doubleheader, erupting for 13 runs on 16 hits to secure a 13–7 win over Eastern Florida State.
After falling behind 1–0 in the opening frame, the Sharks flipped the game in the second with a decisive six-run inning that set the tone. Cintia Escalante got things started with an RBI single, and Cate Haggerty added a sacrifice fly before defensive miscues by Eastern Florida opened the door for more. Caroline Mito reached on an error that plated two, and Alyssa Densmore followed with a two-run single to cap the inning and give MDC a 6–1 advantage.
The offense continued to apply pressure in the third and fourth. Escalante delivered again with another RBI knock, and Sofia Reyes forced a run across with aggressive baserunning. In the fourth, Reyes added an RBI single before Mito broke the game open with a three-run home run to center, pushing the lead to 12–4.
Eastern Florida showed life with multi-run frames in the fourth and fifth, cutting into the deficit behind extra-base hits from Annalyn Duncan and Avery Velazquez, but Miami Dade never allowed the momentum to fully shift. Densmore added her third RBI of the game in the sixth to provide insurance.
Mito led the offensive surge, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI, while Densmore matched her with three RBI of her own. Escalante added two hits and two RBI, and Reyes scored three times and drove in another as the Sharks' lineup produced up and down.
In the circle, Amanda Handa went the distance to earn the win, working through traffic across seven innings while allowing seven runs, six earned.
Miami Dade's early offensive outburst proved more than enough, as the Sharks took Game 1 behind a complete team effort and a relentless approach at the plate.
