Coach Summons Finds the Missing Pieces to the Puzzle for the 2015-16 Season
After taking the MDC women’s basketball to the FCSAA State Tournament Coach Susan Summons is way ahead of the game for the 2015-16 season. Over the past couple of months since the completion of the 2014-15 season Coach Summons has gone on an expedition in search for missing pieces that would help elevate the Miami Dade College Lady Sharks for the upcoming season.
After taking the MDC women's basketball to the FCSAA State Tournament Coach Susan Summons is way ahead of the game for the 2015-16 season. Over the past couple of months since the completion of the 2014-15 season Coach Summons has gone on an expedition in search for missing pieces that would help elevate the Miami Dade College Lady Sharks for the upcoming season. From the east coast to the Midwest Summons struck gold in finding players that fit her ideal style of playing and scheme that she plans on using. Below is a brief summary of what these ladies will be bringing to the table.
- Shatara Jackson – 5'3 - Ed White HS/ College of Central Florida – Jacksonville, FL
- During her freshman year at COF, Shatara Jackson averaged a 32.3 3PT %, and a 74.1 FT%.
- In high school Jackson averaged 13.4 PPG, 3.0 APG, 2.4 RPG, and 3.1 SPG.
- She finished her high school career with 1,000 points, and over 500 assists.
- S.Jackson received All- Conference Honors.
- Jamaria Williams – 5'5 - North Lawndale College Prep- Chicago, IL
- North Lawndale College Prep Girls Basketball 2014-15 Player of the Year.
- Led team in steals and assists her senior season.
- Was selected All- Conference and All- City in the Chicago Public League.
- Averaged 12.6 PPG and 5 RPG.
- Jaiveonna Norris – 6'0 - Homewood-Flossmor HS/ Western Kentuck University – Chicago Heights, IL
- Saw action in 5 games with the Hilltoppers.
- Played on WKU team that won the 2015 Conference USA Championship and that played in the Women's NIT Championship game vs Mississippi State.
- In her junior year in high school she averaged 10.1 PPG, and 5.6 RPG.
- She earned All-Conference First Team honors at Homewood-Flossmor HS and was nominated for the Northeast Times All-Area team 2 years in a row.
- Emporess James – 5'10 – William T. Dwyer HS- Palme Beach Gardens, FL
- In high school James averaged 4.2 PPG, 1.0 APG, 7.8 RPG, and 2.0 SPG.
- 2014-15 All Palm beach County Honorable Mention.
- Has an older 6'5 sister (Kai James) who plays for Florida State University, and an older 6'10 brother (Joel James) who plays for the University of North Carolina (UNC).
- Kevona Gay – 5'11 – Monsignor Edward Pace HS- Opa Locka, FL
- Helped Pace finish with a 19-4 overall record, and make a Region 4-4A Finals appearance.
- Made the 2014-15 All-Dade 4A-2A First Team.
- During her senior season Gay averaged 19 PPG, 5 RPG, and 2 APG.
- Lyric Spriggins – 6'2 – Dickinson High School – Dickinson, TX
- Finished her senior season 3rd in the 24-6A District in RPG with 7.8, and 4th in BPG with 0.8.
- Averaged 5.9 PPG, 7.8 RPG, and 0.8 BPG.
- All-District 24-6A Second Team (2014).
- Deidre West – 6'0 – Quitman County High School – Georgetown, GA
- West averaged 15 PPG, 8 RPG, and 4 BPG her senior season.
- Led team to Sweet 16 in Class 1A state playoffs.
- Team's Best Defensive Player.
- Class 1A All-Region First Team.
- Class 1A Region 1 Offensive Player of the Year.
- Tammy Russell – 5'9 – Morgan Park HS- Chicago, IL
- Finished a stellar varsity career with a double-double average of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Led the Mustangs to a 21-9 record and second place in the Public League playoffs" (Tony Baranek, Chicago Tribune).
- 2014-15 Daily Southern Girls Basketball All-Area Third Team.
- N-G All State Special Mention 50.
- Played in CPLBCA Luther Bedford All- Star Classic.
- Ashley Johnson – 5'10 – P.K. Younge HS – Gianesville, FL
- 4yr Varsity Player.
- Team Captain.
- Has a team high of taking 32 charges.
- Sun- All Area Team Honorable Mention.
- 4.0 GPA Scholar Athlete.
