Sharks fall in 1st day of Pensacola Classic
The Miami Dade Sharks fell just short in an overtime thriller, losing 76-74 to Pensacola State College. The game was a tightly contested battle from the start, with both teams tied at 17 after the first quarter. Pensacola pulled ahead slightly in the second quarter, taking a 33-28 lead into halftime, thanks to Jaida McDonald's consistent scoring inside.
Miami Dade responded in the third quarter, outscoring Pensacola 15-10 behind Jazmyne Bynum's stellar shooting, including five three-pointers, narrowing the deficit to one point. The fourth quarter saw both teams trade baskets, scoring 22 points apiece to force overtime at 68-68. In the extra period, Pensacola capitalized on their free-throw opportunities, sealing the win with three crucial points from the line.
Bynum led Miami Dade with 28 points on 9-of-11 shooting, adding three rebounds and two assists. Shameir Quimby contributed a double-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals, while Cleaira Peterson added 15 points and 12 rebounds. For the Pirates, McDonald tallied 17 points and nine rebounds, with Audreonia Benson and Akeelah Bryan adding 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Sharks will look to bounce back tomorrow when they take on Mississippi Gulf Coast on New Year's Eve.
