Coach Susan Summons Honored as NJCAA Coaches Legacy Award Recipient
The NJCAA has long recognized the outstanding contributions of its most accomplished coaches, and in 2025, the association introduced the NJCAA Coaches Legacy Awards presented by Nufabrx to honor the all-time winningest coaches across all sports. Among the inaugural honorees is Miami Dade College's own legendary coach, Susan Summons.
Coach Summons, a true icon in collegiate athletics, is no stranger to accolades. A seven-time Hall of Famer and one of the original Women's Professional Basketball Trailblazers of the Women's Basketball League (WBL), she has left an indelible mark on the game. With a coaching career spanning nearly four decades, she has built a legacy defined by success, mentorship, and dedication to her student-athletes.
Having amassed over 700 career wins, Summons stands among the top eight winningest coaches in the nation. Under her leadership, Miami Dade College has made 26 trips to the FCSAA State Tournament, solidifying its status as a perennial powerhouse. Beyond the hardwood, her impact is even more profound—boasting an extraordinary 95% graduation, placement, and transfer rate for student-athletes in her program.
