Former Miami Dade College power forward Ashley Sanders returns to MDC this season as an Assistant Coach for the Sharks.

Sanders, a Miami High graduate and State High School Champion was First Team All-Southern Conference, national FCCAA Player of the Week and four time honorable mention in 2005-2006 for Miami Dade College as a freshman, Sanders averaged 12.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per outing for the Lady Sharks that turned in 21-5 mark and a 12-0 record in conference play that season. This allowed the Sharks to make the programs 16th trip to the State Championships and Elite Eight once again. Sanders recorded five double doubles. As a sophomore, Sanders averaged 14.5 and 8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3 steals, and a blocked shot per game. This year she helped MDC to a 20-12 regular season record and its 17th  trip to the Florida Community College Athletic Association State Championships and Elite Eight and a State and National ranking. Sanders earned honors as a JUCO All American, All State and back-to-back Southern Conference Champions in 2006 and 2007.

After graduating from MDC, Sanders went on to play a powerhouse Division 1, University of South Florida. Sanders tallied a career high of 7 points against New Hampshire while pulling down 6 rebounds. She helped University of South Florida win the NCAA Women’s Basketball NIT Championship in 2009.

Sanders will be responsible in assisting the Head Coach in all facets of program operations, provide assistance in on court drills, practice, games, scouting, recruitment, fundraising, administrative tasks, player development and other duties as needed.

Sanders holds a Associate in Arts Degree from Miami Dade College, Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of South Florida.
