Sharks advance to State Finals
The Miami Dade Sharks volleyball team defeated Hillsborough Community College in a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-15, 27-25) to secure a spot in the FCSAA State Finals against Florida Southwestern. This decisive victory brings Miami Dade's record to an impressive 21-1 as they continue their quest for a state title.
Miami Dade displayed superior offensive efficiency with a hitting percentage of .257, compared to Hillsborough's .092. Standout performances included Katielle Alonzo, who led the Sharks with 13 kills and a stellar .393 hitting percentage, and Angelica Rodriguez, who contributed 10 kills with a .333 hitting percentage. Luyeisy Marquez also added 10 kills, matching Rodriguez's accuracy with a .333 hitting mark.
Defensively, the Sharks were anchored by Mia Martinez, who recorded 31 digs, effectively neutralizing Hillsborough's attacks. Miami Dade also showcased a strong blocking game, with Esthefany Rabit contributing six block assists and two total blocks, significantly limiting Hillsborough's scoring opportunities.
Hillsborough's Taylor Sass was the offensive leader for her team, tallying 10 kills, but the team struggled with consistency, hitting at a negative percentage in the second set (-.024). Despite their efforts, Hillsborough couldn't break through Miami Dade's solid defense and consistent offense.
With this victory, Miami Dade advances to the FCSAA State Finals, where they'll face off against the Bucs for the third time this year in what looks to be a battle of the titans.
