Sharks Roll Past Eastern Florida in Game 2
Melbourne, FL - The Sharks bounced back in a big way, defeating Eastern Florida State College 8-1 on the road in Game 2 behind aggressive baserunning, timely hitting and dominant pitching.
Miami Dade wasted no time setting the tone. Adrian Areizaga crossed home in the first on an RBI single from Miguel Colmenares to give the Sharks the early edge. Eastern Florida answered in the bottom half, but that would be the Titans' only run of the afternoon.
From there, it was all Sharks.
Miami Dade regained the lead in the second on a sacrifice fly from Rene Ramirez Jr., then broke things open in the third. A balk brought in a run before Willy Mendez delivered an RBI single to center, extending the lead to 4-1. The Sharks added another in the fourth on a Colmenares sacrifice fly, continuing to apply pressure inning after inning.
The seventh inning put the game out of reach. Colmenares scored on a wild pitch before Leamsi Montañez ripped an RBI single to right, pushing the advantage to 7-1. Montañez capped his strong day in the ninth with an RBI double to plate Mendez and seal the 8-1 victory.
Offensively, the Sharks totaled 10 hits. Colmenares and Montañez both led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Samuel Castro added two hits and scored twice, and Areizaga reached base three times while swiping three bags as part of an aggressive running attack. Miami Dade stole eights bases in the win, constantly disrupting Eastern Florida's rhythm.
On the mound, TJ Socarras earned the victory with four strong innings, allowing just one run while striking out four. The bullpen trio of Devin Grazzal, Xavier Pelzer and Luis Lorenzo combined for five scoreless innings, limiting Eastern Florida to four hits the rest of the way. Lorenzo closed it out with four strikeouts over the final two frames.
The Sharks now head back to Miami where they'll host Indian River on Tuesday, March 3rd.
