Sharks Roll Past Indian River 11–1
Miami, FL - Miami Dade delivered an offensive showcase on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Indian River State College 11–1 in five innings behind a powerful lineup performance and strong pitching from Andy Mesa and Kevin Roque.
The Sharks wasted no time jumping on the board in the bottom of the first inning, exploding for five runs to seize early control of the game. Adrian Areizaga opened the scoring with an RBI double to center field that brought home Jendy Gonzalez. Moments later, Miguel Colmenares launched a three-run home run to left field, scoring William Polanco and Areizaga to extend the lead.
Rene Ramirez Jr. added another run with a sacrifice fly to center that plated Leamsi Montañez, capping the five-run opening frame.
Indian River State managed to push across its lone run in the second inning when David Pina doubled down the line in right field to bring home Camren Baker, cutting the deficit to 5–1.
Miami Dade quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Willy Mendez delivered a two-run single to right field that scored Polanco and Areizaga, pushing the Sharks' advantage to 7–1.
The Sharks continued to add on in the fourth inning when Mendez came through again, this time ripping an RBI double to right field that brought Areizaga across the plate.
Miami Dade put the game away in the fifth inning with three more runs. Polanco lined an RBI single to right field to score Antonio Fawcett before Areizaga capped his standout day with a two-run double that drove in Gonzalez and Polanco to end the game via run rule.
Areizaga led the offensive surge, finishing 2-for-2 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and two doubles. Polanco also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Mendez added two hits and three RBIs, while Colmenares contributed a three-run homer.
On the mound, Andy Mesa earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits over 2.2 innings while striking out two. Roque closed out the final 2.1 innings in dominant fashion, allowing just one hit while striking out four.
Miami Dade finished with 10 hits and 11 RBIs in the contest as the Sharks controlled the game from the opening inning.
