The Miami Dade Sharks nearly pulled off a comeback on Sunday, but an early two-goal hole proved too much to overcome as the Sharks dropped a 3–2 decision to Dallas College Richland.
The Thunderducks wasted no time getting on the board, striking in the 4th minute through Jose Diaz and doubling their advantage in the 12th with a finish from Luis Vargas. The Sharks tightened defensively to close the half but went into the break trailing 2–0.
Miami Dade's response came after halftime. In the 63rd minute, Diego Luengo buried a chance off an assist from Joao Pedro Dos Santos Oliveira to cut the margin in half. Richland answered back just nine minutes later, as Alexis Cruz pushed the lead to 3–1.
The Sharks kept pressing, and Nico Preciado converted in the 82nd minute on a setup from Cheick Dounkasse, giving MDC late hope. Despite an edge in corner kicks and four shots on goal, the Sharks couldn't find the equalizer in the closing minutes.
Goalkeeper Samuel Cavo finished with five saves while keeping Miami Dade within striking distance. Luengo and Preciado each netted their first goals of the season in the effort.
With the result, the Sharks drop to 1–3–2 on the year and will look to regroup as they continue their road swing in Texas.
