Sharks Hold Off Hillsborough for Road Win
Tampa, FL- Miami Dade picked up an important conference road victory Wednesday night, using balanced scoring and strong rebounding to defeat Hillsborough 86-77.
The Sharks (14-8, 8-4) controlled the pace early, building momentum behind their defensive effort in the opening quarter. Miami Dade held Hillsborough to just 10 points in the first period while establishing an eight-point advantage. The Sharks continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, extending the lead to 43–31 at halftime after a productive offensive stretch led by their perimeter shooting.
Hillsborough responded in the third quarter, outscoring Miami Dade 27–19 to cut into the deficit and make it a one-possession game entering the final period. The Sharks answered in the fourth, however, executing offensively and limiting second-chance opportunities to pull away late and secure the nine-point win.
Jazmyne Bynum led all scorers with 27 points, knocking down five three-pointers while also contributing eight rebounds and seven assists in an all-around performance. Constanza Aravena added 21 points, connecting on five shots from beyond the arc to help Miami Dade stretch the floor throughout the night.
Saige McCloud provided a strong spark off the bench with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Meredith Venner recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, adding six assists, three steals, and two blocks in a dominant interior effort. Azjannie Culberth chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds as four Sharks finished in double figures.
With the win, the Sharks continue to build momentum in FCSAA play as they head into the final stretch of the regular season looking to improve positioning in the conference standings.
