Daytona Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Miami Dade
Miami, FL - Miami Dade dropped a 100-79 decision to Daytona State after a pivotal third quarter swung momentum for good.
The Sharks trailed 25-16 after one but responded in the second, matching Daytona State 25-25 to head into halftime down nine. The turning point came in the third quarter, where Daytona State outscored Miami Dade 31-10, stretching the lead to 81-51 entering the final period. The Sharks showed fight in the fourth, putting up 28 points, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Jazmyne Bynum led Miami Dade with 21 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double while adding four steals. Constanza Aravena contributed 17 points, and Meredith Venner added 15 points and 12 rebounds for another double-double effort. Azjannie Culberth chipped in 13 points, knocking down three from beyond the arc.
Miami Dade struggled from the field, shooting 31.7 percent overall and 3-of-26 from three-point range. Daytona State capitalized on second-chance opportunities and controlled the glass, outrebounding the Sharks 72-46.
Catalina Roco paced Daytona State with 21 points, including five three-pointers, while Jaeden Williams posted 16 points and 14 rebounds. The Falcons placed five players in double figures and shot 44.6 percent from the floor to secure the road win.
Despite a strong closing quarter, Miami Dade could not recover from the third-quarter surge as Daytona State reached the century mark in the 100-79 final.
