Sharks Sweep Dodge to Move to 2-0
The No. 2–ranked Miami Dade College Sharks kept its hot start rolling, sweeping host Dodge City Community College 3–0 (25–14, 25–14, 25–16) on Saturday to improve to 2–0 on the season.
The Sharks controlled the match from the opening whistle, hitting .289 as a team while holding Dodge City in check throughout the three sets.
Veronika Petrova had an all-around standout night, finishing with 8 kills and 5 block assists for 10.5 points. Middle blocker Maria Fernanda de Lima Varela was efficient, hitting .545 with 7 kills and adding 3 block assists. Luyeisy Marquez-Moreno paced the attack with 9 kills and added a service ace, while Juliana Laguado Raigosa contributed 6 kills, 6 digs, and 2 assists.
Setter Eleonora Gicheva once again orchestrated the offense with 29 assists, while also scoring 3 kills, 2 aces, and picking up 9 digs. Defensively, Miami Dade tallied 35 digs and 15 block assists as a team, dominating at the net and in the back row.
The win capped off a successful first day for Miami Dade in Dodge City. The Sharks will continue on their quest for a perfect weekend as they take on Barton Community College and Eastern Arizona to close out the Victory Electric Classic.
