Sharks Make Quick Work of Santa Fe
The Miami Dade Sharks continued its perfect start to the season with a commanding sweep over Santa Fe College, winning in straight sets (25-11, 25-16, 25-10) to open conference play.
The Sharks controlled the match from start to finish, hitting an impressive .343 as a team. Miami Dade's balanced offense and aggressive serving set the tone early, leaving Santa Fe without answers.
Juliana Laguado Raigosa powered the attack with 10 kills on .333 hitting, while Maria Fernanda de Lima Varela added 7 kills and a match-high 4 blocks. Luyeisy Marquez-Moreno had a standout all-around performance, recording 9 kills, 9 digs, and 5 service aces to lead the Sharks in scoring with 14.5 points.
Setter Eleonora Gicheva orchestrated the offense with 25 assists and chipped in 3 aces and 5 digs. Angelica Rodriguez added 6 kills, and Eduarda Fabricio was nearly unstoppable in limited swings, finishing with 3 kills on a .600 clip.
Katianna Mejía Betancur anchored the back row with a match-high 24 digs, while the team as a whole tallied 47 digs and 9 total blocks.
With the win, Miami Dade improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Sharks will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive as they continue their road trip in Melbourne where they'll take part in the EFSC Titan Invitational.
