Sharks Rally Past Jefferson in Game 1 Sweep
The No. 1 ranked Miami Dade Sharks opened their weekend with a statement, sweeping Jefferson College in straight sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) to stay perfect on the season at 5-0. But beyond the numbers, the win carried a deeper layer of grit and togetherness after outside hitter Juliana Laguado Raigosa went down with an injury early in the first set.
Rather than faltering, the Sharks dug within themselves and responded with their best volleyball of the day. Miami Dade hit a blistering .517 in the second set, turning a tight match into complete control. Angelica Rodriguez set the tone offensively with 12 kills on just 18 swings (.611), while Luyeisy Márquez-Moreno anchored the attack with a team-high 13 kills and 15 total points.
Setter Eleonora Gicheva masterfully orchestrated the offense, dishing out 31 assists while also contributing 4 service aces. On the defensive side, Katianna Mejía Betancur was a force in the back row, scooping up 25 digs to keep plays alive.
The Sharks dominated at the net as well, out-blocking the Vikings 9-3, with Luana Borsatto and Eduarda Fabricio combining for key stops in the middle.
Miami Dade will look to carry that same energy into Game 2 where they'll take on USC Lancaster.
