Sharks Power Past Lake Land to Stay Perfect
The top-ranked Miami Dade Sharks continued their undefeated run with a commanding 3-0 sweep over Lake Land College on Saturday morning, improving to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Sharks took the match 25-16, 26-24, 25-6.
Miami Dade's offense clicked early and often, hitting an impressive .368 as a team with 43 kills and just 11 errors on 87 swings. Sophomore outside hitter Luyeisy Marquez-Moreno once again led the way, finishing with 13 kills on a .417 clip, adding eight digs and a service ace for a match-high 14 points. Maria Fernanda de Lima Varela was nearly unstoppable at the net, producing nine kills without committing an error, hitting .643 and chipping in two aces and four block assists.
Setter Eleonora Gicheva orchestrated the attack with 24 assists and four service aces, while libero Katianna Mejía Betancur anchored the defense, picking up 15 digs. Angelica Rodriguez added balance with seven kills, while Paulina Agudelo Marin was fantastic on her attempts, hitting .750 with three kills.
After cruising to a 25-16 win in the opening set, the Sharks found themselves in a back-and-forth battle in the second frame. Lake Land surged behind double-digit kills from Bella Austin and Beronica De Oleo, but Miami Dade held firm in extra points, 26-24. That momentum carried into the third, where the Sharks overwhelmed the Lakers, holding them to just five kills while swinging at a scorching .750 to close the match 25-6.
With the sweep, the Sharks extend their winning streak to eight and remain unblemished on the season.
