Sharks Sweep Hillsborough, Extend Win Streak
The #2 ranked Miami Dade Sharks continued their dominant run in conference play, sweeping Hillsborough Community College 3–0 on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Sharks improved to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in Conference play, while Hillsborough fell to 8-7 and 1-3.
Miami Dade came out firing, hitting a blistering .433 in the opening set, led by outside hitter Luyeisy Marquez-Moreno, who powered the offense with a match-high 19 kills on .457 hitting to go along with 8 digs and 20 total points. Setter Eleonora Gicheva ran a balanced attack, dishing out 30 assists while adding 7 kills of her own on a stellar .583 hitting percentage and contributing 4 service aces.
Middle blocker Maria Fernanda de Lima Varela was highly efficient, tallying 5 kills on .667 hitting, while Angelica Rodriguez chipped in 6 kills and 4 digs. On the defensive end, Katianna Mejía Betancur anchored the back row with a team-high 13 digs.
The Sharks finished the night hitting .344 as a team with 41 total kills, six service aces, and 38 digs.
With the win, Miami Dade maintains its hold on the top of the conference standings and will look to keep the momentum going as they prepare for their next matchup against #1 ranked Florida SouthWestern.
