The No. 3 Miami Dade Sharks held off Hillsborough Community College in a five-set thriller at home on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Hawks 3–2 (24–26, 25–17, 25–23, 23–25, 15–12). The win pushes Miami Dade to 20–2 overall and 9–1 in conference play.
After dropping a tight opening set, the Sharks bounced back behind a strong offensive surge in sets two and three. Hillsborough refused to back down, forcing a decisive fifth frame, but Miami Dade responded down the stretch to close out the match.
Luyeisy Marquez-Moreno led the way with 22 kills and 15 digs, while Eduarda Fabricio was dominant with 18 kills on a blistering .857 hitting percentage. María Fernanda de Lima Varela added 13 kills and hit .667 as the Sharks posted a .280 team hitting percentage.
Eleonora Gicheva paced the offense with 52 assists and added 11 digs. Katianna Mejía Betancur anchored the back row with 28 digs, and the Sharks totaled 87 digs and 12 blocks as a team.
Miami Dade now turn their heads to No. 1 ranked Florida SouthWestern whom they'll play next Saturday in Fort Myers.
