The Miami Dade Sharks women's soccer team struck first but couldn't hold on, falling 5–1 to Daytona State College on the road Wednesday afternoon.
The Sharks opened the match with early momentum when Susan Santos found the back of the net in the 16th minute off an assist from Kyara Ormazabal, giving Miami Dade a 1–0 advantage. However, Daytona State quickly responded just four minutes later and went on to dominate the second half, netting four unanswered goals to take control of the match.
Daytona's Shaneil Buckley led all scorers with a hat trick, while Risako Abe and Vanessa Manoil each added a goal and an assist to power the Falcons' attack. Despite the tough result, Miami Dade showed flashes of connection in transition, tallying five total shots with four on target.
Goalkeeper Ashley Fonseca played the full 90 minutes for the Sharks, facing a relentless Daytona offense that recorded 14 shots and seven assists across their five goals.
With the loss, Miami Dade drops to 3-3-2 on the season. The Sharks will look to regroup as they return home to prepare for their next matchup against Eastern Florida.
